Client: De Mussen
Realization: 2010 – 2016
Location: The Hague (NL)
Project was partly carried out by Guus and Koen
during their employment at Ontwerpwerk
De Mussen is a vivid community center in the heart of the Schilderswijk, The Hague. Ontwerpwerk initially designed their new corporate identity. In the same period, the community center was planning a renovation for their 3000 square meters building and we were asked to give coloring advice and some construction supervision. This eventually resulted in a long-lasting, strong collaboration in which aim for a completely new and sustainable interior. Step by step, room by room.
The main colors of the building are warm whites and greys. Some walls have accent colors, as well as most of the furniture. We used form elements of the corporate identity to create patterns for large pendants. The liveliness of the center and the intense use of its interior requires ‘unbreakable’ furniture. Therefore we made all tables and storage cabinets out of 38 mm thick plywood.
